Description:
Welcome to the third edition of the Backroad Mapbook for the Kootenays! Found in the Southeastern corner of British Columbia, this is a beautiful area that is dominated by spectacular mountain peaks and broad valleys that are home to large rivers and even bigger lakes. Mountain parks, natural hot springs, world-class snowmobiling, cascading waterfalls, and great fishing are a few of the highlights of the area.
The Backroad Mapbooks have had a history of doing substantial changes and updates to the book and we are very confident you will be astounded by the improvements found within this book. The first part of the book is devoted solely to the reference section. It is easy to see that this section has been expanded. People will find more lakes and streams to fish, more parks to visit, more areas to paddle and even places to look for wildlife.
Despite the additions to the writing, followers of the Backroad Mapbooks will be more impressed with the new look of the maps. The first thing that will jump out at you is the relief shading. This amazing feature will help people understand the dramatic topography found in Southeastern BC. Another prominent feature is the clarification of paved roads. Now people with RVs and cars will know which roads they will find much smoother to travel on. We have also spent countless hours updating the road and trail systems as well as adding new recreational features such as new provincial parks and wildlife viewing areas.
In the Kootenay edition of the Backroad Mapbook Series we cover a large portion of southeastern BC. Geographically, the area stretches from Christina Lake and Revelstoke in the west to the Flathead and the Alberta border in the east and from the USA border in the south to Kinbasket Lake in the north. The bigger cities include Castlegar, Cranbrook, Golden, Nelson, Revelstoke and of course Trail, which is the birthplace of the authors Wesley and Russell Mussio. Within these boundaries it is easy to see why the Kootenays will always remain dear to the hearts of the authors and people who visit this gorgeous area.
The Backroad Mapbook is much more than a set of maps. It is an explorers guide. The maps and writing will let you dream of places not so far away. So sit back and enjoy what we have to offer.
